disappointed. I've been waiting for Con's book since reading the four previous novels last year, but find myself completely bored with both the set up - filthy rich, (ostensibly) jaded, widowed duchess seeking her first lover since the end of her year-long mourning period, chooses illegitimate but still wealthy ton
rogue, Constantine Huxtable - and the heroine. Of course they are the only ones who can penetrate the other's intimidating, world-weary exterior to find the soft-hearted, gooey marshmallow center. All of this would be fine if Balogh were bringing a fresh twist to the old trope, or writing with a fresh, engaging flare. She does neither. Forty-seven (tedious) pages in left painted Con - a character I couldn't get enough of in the preceding stories - as flat and uninteresting. ARGH!!!
